The branding of politics.

I have noticed over the past few months one large difference between these two candidates, and I know I am not the only one. In the beginning of the campaigns, Obama had his name bigger than anything else, but as things have progressed, he has somewhat taken a backseat to what he is trying to get across to the public. His name at some point for the most part went away from all rallies and campaign collateral, and the word "CHANGE" started to make it's appearance alongside his logo. Check out the above shots for reference.

When you look at Hillary Clinton's campaign, you see her name larger than anything, which is the norm for politicians. It is interesting that as things came into his favor, his team decided to depart from the norm to get across to Joe Average what they were all about, which I think is what has grabbed everyone's attention and got them thinking he may be the guy. A lot has been written about the design of his campaign, much of it very valid. The fact that you NEVER see campaign collateral with so much as a font out of place is amazing when you consider the size and scale of the project.

As things get closer, I think it says a lot that Obama is taking this risk to reinforce what his campaign believes in instead of getting involved in dismantling the character of the opponents. The mindset, as well as the design, is a pretty nice change in and of itself.

Just an observation.
