Brick Bandits.
It was a stellar week over at Quartersnacks. Sadly, as for most that grew up around that era, skateboarding downtown died when when the small banks died. It was fun to read up on all the different stories from those days. I was lucky to be able to skate the "hip" and ollie over the wall multiple times during the glory days.
Some of my favorite memories included chilling at Daren's grandmas apt up the street at Confucious Plaza while watching Mouse then rolling down the street to session the banks under the dim streetlights. It was fun bec we had the place to ourselves skating there late at night & every trick was such a leap of faith in the dark. Oh, to get one last bs 180 over that wall.
Grab a snack, pull up a chair, and get your read on. .
One of my first introductions to the banks was one of the early contests which was mobbed with dudes all over the place practicing their flatbank tricks and others working to snap ollie grabs over the wall. I remember this huge linebacker of a dude (who I learned later to be Sean Sheffey) wearing a Club Homeboy wristband just pushing over nerds who got in his way then doing Japans over the wall. I learned real quick to stay out of the way and that if you were really skating people would stay out of your way.
The session then transfered to the ledge behind the small banks where he lipslid the whole length of the ledge tilting his board to clear the tree planter curbs in the middle of the ledge. He then ollied over one of the back of benches on his way back to the starting point of the ledge. I was blown away only seeing ollies that high in Poweredge magazine. Shit was so retarted.
