Funky Fridays #119.

"The success of Raekwon's comeback classic, 2009's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...Pt. II, seems to have propelled the Chef's hustle to unforeseen heights. The Coke Cooker, the third compilation in my Best of 2010 series, highlights Rae's grizzle throughout the year, featuring nearly FOUR HOURS worth of wide-spanning music. The cover for this mix is based on Lee Morgan's 1957 LP The Cooker, released on Blue Note Records (slideshow here). There's plenty more where this came from... but until then... enjoy... and turn it up!!"

THE Secret Menu.
Just when I thought I heard it all, just found out that my favorite establishment has some other "Secret Menu" items. I thought I was down ordering a Double Double "American Style" with the bread "Mustard Toasted" with grilled chopped onions & chili peppers*, fries "Double Dipped with Cheese", and a Black & White Shake. Going for the Arnold Palmer next visit.
The Secret Menu.
The Root Beer Float.
The Flying Dutchman.
>Not my shit but damn. In & Out's answer to the Double Down. Fuck Bread.

The World's Greatest Christmas Mixtape.
"When it came to putting together a mixtape at this time of the year, I knew I couldn't do it without getting my friend and 2 time ITF champion, Marc Hype in on the act. Marc and I first met about this time last year when DJing at the Rap History club night in Berlin and bonded over our love of obscure rap 12s, unusual breaks and, as it turns out, funky Christmas records. The result of many hours of digging, many more of mix construction and a few email conversations is a little collaboration we've decided to call 'The World's Greatest Christmas Mixtape', a title we hope will be taken in good humour and a dose of Christmas cheer.
You'd be forgiven for thinking a Christmas mix is going to be a little corny and you might be right, but what the hell; If some of our favourite artists of all time (Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Michael Jackson to name a few) can get away with making Christmas records, I don't see why we shouldn't give some of those records our loving touch - so that's what we've done; Two mixes taking in forgotten Funk gems, a little Soul, Hip Hop and even a touch of Latin all with that Christmas theme. Merry Christmas - we hope you enjoy!"

Vintage Throwbacks.
Subscribed. Makes me wanna pick up some all black Cabs, throw on some crispy white laces, find some red curbs and go to town. Too bad we don't have Albertson's or Ralphs in Queens.

Roll Em Up!
I admit to being a bitch and I stop riding when the "feels like" temps drop south of 15 degrees. I'll snowboard in any temps with the frostbite scars to prove it, but cycling is a whole 'nother realm of cold pain. I hand it to the riders toughing it out. Gotta cop a set of rollers to keep my chops up in the winter.

Magic Eraser.
This article is pretty funny almost embarrasing. I dunno how many time I've walked home in my socks after stepping in dogshit, but it's good to know there's a collective out there as retarded as me. I guess having a five rotating pairs of black, white sole sneakers as daily beaters isn't too out of the ordinary.
Bars? I dress up for going out like someone dresses for hunting. Tims, heavy denim & last last last year's jacket. Disposable. I have kicks that only see the light of day on Christmas and my birthday. I'm not into Jordans, but ironically I have a pair of scuffed Jordan 5s that I wear in the winter when it's raining or snowing.
Guilty as charged. But I'm extra terrible in this case. I may pick up to two or three pairs EXTRA just to stock, so I can "beat" on the pair I'm gonna wear if you can call it that. Proper maintenance rules still apply. But it works in my favor, because I don't buy shoes all that often bec it usually breaks the bank.
Oh man. Cuhraaack. Someone make the Air Freshener already.
My kit is never a mess, but there's something satisfying about the Nike stack. So satisfying that I have three: one at home, one in the garage and another at my parent's place in the country. "It seems as if all is right in the world, as long as our sneakers are safe." So true. Girls have teddy bears, I have my Nike stacks.
I don't exactly clean my shoes after every wear as in #6 unless they are a one of the 04' pre-bubble re-design AM95 Neons I only wear on my birthday. But I find that Arm & Hammer Magic Eraser beats all those cleaning kits. No chemicals just Magic .

Not Gore Tex.
These SB Mids finally released with rumors of them being Gore-Tex which would be a great option to lugging around ACG boots all winter but apparently they are not. Gay.
Gore Tex.
Been debating picking up a classic North Face Bubble to deal with the brick weather, but can't help feeling like George.

Time for Some.
Axion prob made some of the best skate/chill shoes with the Kareem Campbell Kicks. Very proud that I still have two OG pairs in great condition in storage. As said on many of the throwback blogs, Axion definitely defined a golden era of skateboarding where Cabs, OG Sal 23s rounded out the skate kit.
I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hoping someone at the new resurrection of Axion will re-release this model. But at least, Axion has kept to it's roots and sponsored some serious Philly street heads. I respect those guys still repping Philly. It's rugged enough just to drive there; it's gotta be rough to spend a day managing the the cracks and crackheads on the Ph streets.
Gotta love the High Life Nips.

Boom Boxed.
Sure do miss the mixtape days of going to the spot to listen to the new mixes and bumping them in the whip driving around town. With the invention of digital media, street music kinda died. But at least a couple dedicated nerds have been recording all the classics and making them available for all of us old heads. Enjoy.
